Day trip highlights

What an Uluru day trip can include

No two Uluru day tours are built exactly alike. Depending on the itinerary and the independent operator running it, your day in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park may take in scenic viewpoints, guided walks, photography opportunities, cultural interpretation and a visit to Kata Tjuta. This page walks through those stops one by one, so you know what to look for when you compare tours.

01

Will I see Uluru at sunrise or sunset?

Our answer

Depending on the itinerary, an Uluru day tour may include scenic viewpoints of Uluru (Ayers Rock), where you can take in the rock and the landscape around it.

We can’t promise a particular time of day. Whether a viewing at a certain time is part of your tour depends on the itinerary and the operator’s schedule. If it matters to you, ask whether a particular time of day is part of the itinerary, and check the confirmed inclusions on the tour page before you book.

02 · Guided walks

Walking tracks at the base

Depending on the itinerary, a tour may include a guided walk, giving you a closer look at the rock and the landscape around it. Whether a walk is included, and how long it is, varies by tour. Check the details if mobility or heat is a concern.

03 · Cultural interpretation

Learning about Anangu country

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is Anangu country. Where an itinerary includes cultural interpretation, your guide may share context about the landscape and its significance. Please follow signage and your guide’s directions throughout. Read more in Visiting Respectfully: Anangu Culture and Park Rules.

04 · Photography stops

Time to take it in

Itineraries often allow for photography opportunities at viewpoints and along the way. Some places in the park are sensitive, so take your cue from signs and your guide about where photos are appropriate. A short pause without the camera is worth it too.

05

Does the day include Kata Tjuta?

Kata Tjuta’s rounded domes sit within the same national park as Uluru, and some day tours visit both. Others concentrate on Uluru alone, which can mean more time at the rock and fewer hours on the road.

Neither approach is better for everyone. It comes down to how much you want to see and how long you’re happy to spend travelling. For background on the park itself, see Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park: The Setting of Your Day Trip.

So what should I check before I book?

Our answer

Every stop on this page is a possibility, not a promise. Inclusions vary by itinerary and operator, so before you choose, check:

  • Duration: it depends on where you depart from, the attractions included and the distances travelled.
  • Inclusions: which viewpoints, walks and cultural interpretation are actually part of the tour.
  • Exclusions: flights, accommodation, personal expenses, travel insurance, optional activities, and meals or park entry fees may not be included.
  • Price: it can change with the itinerary, departure location, travel date, season, group size and included activities.
  • Availability: it depends on the schedule, season, weather and capacity on your date.

Our tour pages list these details once the operator has confirmed them. For a fuller guide, read Aren’t All Uluru Day Tours the Same? How to Choose and What Affects Uluru Tour Prices and Inclusions.
